Fiona Apple Takes on Perez Hilton

Most celebrities say at some point that they do not read the gossip rags, and try to avoid seeing all negative press about themselves. And who can blame them? Gossip and speculations about celebrities has reached an all-time high in our society. It can even affect the targeted celebrity’s ability to continue finding work – just ask Lindsay Lohan. 

However, singer Fiona Apple isn’t willing to stand by and watch the media rip her apart any more. The 35-year-old Grammy winner has decided to stand up for herself.

Apple addressed the growing issue while onstage during a concert in Clearwater, Florida. With only one actual face and human name to identify the gossip with, Apple addressed much of her lecture at the professional celebrity gossiper, Perez Hilton.

"All right, this is all going to culminate in me actually talking to Perez Hilton. I'm sorry man, but you're the only that has the guts to be a person rather than a bunch of people like TMZ or whatever, I can give you that," Apple started.

The singer continued on for about seven minutes, getting everything off of her chest, although she also admitted that she didn’t expect anything to really change after she voiced her concern.

“I've given away my computer now, because I cannot do it anymore. I've trying to keep track of all the fucking things that are said. So whoever's gonna write and be mean, go ahead I'm not going to read it. But Perez Hilton, I should have never have seen this. But to hire ‘experts’ to comment and say that I am sick is totally, totally irresponsible, and dangerous and you should know better … And I'm not on any drugs. I had some bourbon before I came out here.

“Can we please? I realize it's ridiculous and hopeless for me to ask this but, Perez Hilton, TMZ, whoever you represent, I'm not invulnerable to this stuff. I've been around for many years. But it hurts. I spent all yesterday – don't need to hear that I'm 90 years old, just because I didn't have a facelift in the last seven years you saw me.”

Apple has been headline fodder for the gossip rags lately due to a recent arrest at a board stop in Sierra Blanca, Texas. A drug-sniffing dog found small amounts (.01 pounds) of each marijuana and hashish, a concentrated form of cannabis, on her tour bus. Apple was subsequently arrested for possession and later released on a $10,000 bail.
