First Awkward Reunion Set for Holmes and Cruise

Suri Cruise is will embark on her first day of school outside of her home next month. To mark the big occasion in her life, her famous parents will be coming together and pretending to like each other for the first time since Katie Holmes gave Tom Cruise the worst 50^th birthday present ever – a divorce filing.

A big point of contention leading up to the divorce was Katie and Tom’s disagreement about Suri’s schooling, according to an “insider” who spoke with an online gossip rag (so obviously take this with a grain of salt). Tom had his other two children, Isabella and Connor Cruise, whom he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, homeschooled by Scientology tutors. He wanted the same for Suri.

The insider claims Tom is unhappy about Katie enrolling Suri in a private Catholic school, but he has "reluctantly accepted this is the way it's going to be and will absolutely be a big part of Suri's life at school." It is rumored that Tom has already made arrangements to be in New York for Suri’s first day.

"It's a big moment in Suri's life and Katie wants Tom to be a part of that," said the source.

Suri’s school isn’t just any old school, either. The all-girls Convent of Sacred Heart costs just under $40,000 a year. The school is known for its quality academics, with a low teacher-to-student ratio of 7:1, and all students learning at least one other language, beginning in kindergarten.

Although the former couple have not seen one another since the divorce filing, they reached a settlement is an impressive two weeks and have both – individually – spent time with Suri. Katie has been spotted with Suri everywhere from the zoo, to gymnastics practice, to the ice cream parlor. Tom has been spotted with more elaborate father-daughter bonding experiences, such as helicopter rides and Disneyland.

"Katie doesn't want Suri to suffer because of their divorce, and both parents are truly putting the needs of their little girl ahead of their own feelings," a different insider told an online gossip rag. Even if the “insider” is not real, or doesn’t really know the couple, the statement appears to ring some truth to it, judging by all of the sightings of Katie and Tom with their daughter.

Good luck to the pair next month in their awkward family gathering. Hopefully, Suri is too distracted by her new school to notice.
