Holmes-Cruise Divorce: One Month Later

in category of Gossip, Audra Rundle, celebrity news

It’s been a little over a month now since Katie Holmes surprised everyone – especially her then-husband Tom Cruise – with her divorce filing in New York. So how is everyone holding up?

Tom, who was caught quite off-guard by the whole thing, managed to finish the movie he was filming on at the time of the divorce, and is already filming his next film. He has also managed to squeeze in some paparazzi-filled dates with his and Holmes’ 6-year-old daughter, Suri. Although it’s hard to believe Tom is not at least a bit bummed by the whole situation, he is putting his award-winning acting skills to work in front of the cameras and playing the role of happy and proud father.

Suri seems to be doing well. She has been spotted on various fun outings with each of her parents, who will inevitably claim they are not trying to win the title of “most fun parent,” although the pictures might suggest otherwise. She has been spotted at the ice cream parlor and the zoo with Holmes, while Cruise went big right off the bat and took her to Disneyland.

So how is Holmes? She initiated the split, so she should be flying high right now, right? Overall, yes, she is happy and relieved – one source even says she is “blissfully happy” – but it’s also a bit complicated to get her life back on track as a single mother.

Although sources agree that Holmes still feels she made the right decision in filing for divorce and does not regret it for a second, one unnamed source told the British magazine Grazia, “Finally free from Tom, Katie is keen to find her own voice. So she has sought professional help and has employed a confidence coach who she's been seeing once a week to help her regain who she once was.'”

Um, what the hell is a confidence coach? Am I the only one who has never heard of this occupation? People actually get paid to helping others feel better about themselves? And to think, I’ve been doling out encouragement to my friends and family for free all this time.

The source continued to Grazia, “The glow and radiance that defined Katie post-split seem to have evaporated. She won't have anticipated that she would suffer from a complete lack of self-confidence, and what it would actually feel like not being Mrs. Tom Cruise. It's like she's struggling to regain her own identity while balancing work, motherhood and keeping Suri grounded. With so much on her mind, it's hardly surprising that she's not sleeping for more than five hours a night. She doesn't regret what she did – far from it. But she's found it harder to carry as normal these past few weeks.”

But carry on she must, as she won full custody of Suri and has already started work on her first post-divorce project, a movie, Molly, which she wrote and will be co-producing.

Divorces are usually hard for everyone involved – even the initiator. Best of luck to Holmes, Cruise, and Suri and they adjust to their new normal.
