Jessica Simpson Welcomes Baby Maxwell To This World
Finally! Jessica Simpson’s baby girl is here! Almost two weeks after her projected due date of April 21, Maxwell Drew Johnson was born yesterday at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles.
Baby Maxwell appears to have taken advantage of her extra time in the womb, as the littlest Simpson girl isn’t actually so little, weighing in at a whopping 9 pounds and 13 ounces and 21 ½ inches long!
Jessica wrote on her website yesterday, “Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson. We are so grateful for all the love, support and prayers we have received. This is been the greatest experience of our lives.”
Maxwell is Jessica’s fiancé Eric Johnson’s middle name, and “Drew” is Jessica’s mother’s maiden name.
This is 31-year-old Jessica’s first baby, and there was much speculation throughout the second half of her pregnancy that she might actually be carrying twins, or that she would have the baby early. Already a woman of ample curves, Jessica ballooned up significantly in her third trimester and looked just plain uncomfortable most of the time. It didn’t help that she insisted on wearing ridiculously high heels right up until the end.
Last week Jessica was receiving so many early congratulations on her new baby that she finally had to announce on Twitter that she was, in fact, still pregnant.
“To everyone who keeps congratulating me on the birth of my baby girl…I’m still pregnant!! Don’t believe what you read ladies and gents,” Jessica tweeted.
Even Jessica’s dad, Joe, was eager for Maxwell to finally make her appearance, as he tweeted last weekend, “Still counting down the days til I am a grandpa again. Keep Jess in your prayers.”
Jessica is rumored to be the next celebrity face for the Weight Watchers program as inspiration to lose her baby weight. It will be a big change for the singer-actress who was very open about giving in to any and all cravings she had throughout her pregnancy.
"I like going back to my childhood and eating pop tarts and random stuff that I ate when I was a kid," Jessica told Entertainment Tonight. She also said she liked, "French fries, grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, and tater tots." and her favorite was "toasted peanut butter and jelly [sandwiches]."
Well then, it sounds like Jessica will have to do a major overturn of her current eating habits for her big post-baby slim down, but for now we hope she is just focusing on healing and bonding with her new little girl. We can’t wait to see pictures!
