Another long-term Hollywood relationship bites the dust.
Sources are reporting to various celebrity media outlets, including
People magazine and HollywoodLife.com, that Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have split and are living “separate lives.”
The couple, parents to 12-year-old Lily-Rose and 9-year-old son Jack, seemed fantastically romantic just a few years ago, while still living a normal life with their family away from the cameras in the quiet French hamlet of Plan-de-la-Tour. But it appears times have changed.
After nearly 14 years together, the fairytale romance is done. “My sense is that this is a couple which hasn’t existed for two years,” a source told
People.
The move back to Los Angeles for Depp’s career, and his ever-growing success, is reportedly to blame for the split.
“They bet that they could move to California and be on long stays on film locations for his career. They bet that things would continue there as they had in the south of France,” a source told HollywoodLife.com. “They lost that bet. Vanessa went seven years between albums and several years between film projects while he became Captain Jack Sparrow.”
Though no official comment has been made about the split, it has been a long time since the duo was photographed together in public or at an event, which is adding fuel to the Splitsville rumors.
HollywoodLife.com reports that trouble can be traced back to 2009, when Depp was spotted out partying sans his longtime girlfriend while filming
The Rum Diary in Puerto Rico. The next year, while filming
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Depp would go out drinking and “chat with girls and was very friendly and flirty,” a source told HollywoodLife.com. When the blockbuster premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Paradis didn’t attend with Depp. “We couldn’t believe they wouldn’t come together,” a source told the gossip site.
And just recently in November, Depp and Paradis were both in Paris...in separate hotels. Depp attended the premiere of
The Rum Diary, but Paradis was not by his side on the red carpet—she went to a concert instead. They reportedly live in separate homes in L.A.
The bright spot during their woes? The couple’s kids—and their family could draw them together again. “They are both very attached to their children and could work things out, but they have both changed—a lot,” a source said.
