Kardashian Divorce Drags On
We all probably know about and remember the fiasco that was Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries, NBA star. The wedding that cost so much didn’t last very long at all, and now, the couple is trying to get the divorce settled so they can move on.
So what’s taking so long? It’s been weeks since we heard about the two splitting up, and Kim is even dating rapper Kanye West, so you would think the details would have been taken care of and the divorce finalized. No so. Even though the couple had signed a prenup, the divorce is still taking a long time. Kardashian’s attorney, Laura Wasser, was quoted saying, “To say I am frustrated is an understatement … I’m at a loss to figure out what the holdup is. They had a prenup and were married 72 days.”
To add to the prenuptials and the short-lived romance, the marriage may not have even been legitimate! Humphries’ attorney has been searching for information from Kardashian’s mother and about her reality shows in an attempt to prove that the marriage was fraudulent, and was never actually recognized. Plans are being made for the deposition of Kanye West, Kim’s mother, and over thirty other witnesses. (This just means that they will be asked to testify about the marriage.)
While Humphries wants the divorce to be finalized this year, that isn’t very likely to happen. Kris’ attorney told Judge Stephen Moloney during a hearing on Monday that it would be at least another four months before he could finish collecting information and complete depositions. After that, there will still be the trial, finalizations, and other legal proceedings, not to mention media coverage!
While it’s obvious why two people who want to get divorced might hurry the process up, there has been some speculation on whether or not the hurry is partly due to a pending engagement between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, because of course, the two can’t get hitched before Kim’s divorce with Kris is finalized. Is another wedding on the way? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Kim Kardashian has already accumulated over $25,000 in legal fees, which she plans to bill to Humphries. Wasser, Kim’s attorney, said, “We are going to ask for every cent of those fees back from his client … To what end does he want this annulment?”
So while there is a little hold-up concerning the Kardashian divorce, it’s definitely going to happen. I know the two of them can’t wait for it to be over, though!
