Katie Holmes’ Last Pre-Divorce Interview
Katie Holmes wasn’t shying away from interviews right before she dropped her bombshell divorce on Tom Cruise, but she was choosing her words carefully. In the moment, no one suspected a thing, but in hindsight, many clues of her detachment were already there.
Home’s last pre-divorce interview to hit the newsstands is in the September edition of C magazine. The premise of the interview is to discuss her upcoming movie, Run, which opens in theaters August 9.
Of course, no interview with Holmes would be complete without a question or two about her extraordinarily famous (now-ex) husband. C asked Holmes if her 6-year-old daughter with Cruise has brought her closer to him.
Holmes simply answered, "I don't know. I mean ... I don't know. People have been having babies a long time." This general, luck-warm response had to have seemed a bit odd at the time, but if the interviewer prodded any further, it wasn’t printed.
Holmes also revealed that she is ready to take on new challenges in life, suggesting she is ready for a new chapter.
“I’m ready to take on some more challenging roles. I feel like I worked so much at such a young age that I really wanted to have life experiences. I feel more balanced and like I have more to bring to the table. I always felt like I wanted to catch up [in my personal life] to what I was doing [in my career].”
The final hint that things were changing for Holmes was her photo shoot. Since being with Cruise, she has dressed noticeably more conservatively, to the point that media sources speculated whether Cruise was heavily influencing – or even controlling – her wardrobe.
Holmes is oozing sexuality on the pages of C, however. The cover shows her clan in a skin-tight black dress with an exceptionally short miniskirt. The right side of the skirt sits higher on her thigh, and the actress appears to be in the middle of a shimmy to lower her skirt a bit. Hmm, what could that be intended to suggest?
Another image shows Homes in nothing but an over-sized Mad Hatter-esque hat and a tight black leather jacket with a neckline down to her bellybutton. That’s it! The coat is being worn as a dress.
It’s true that interviewers had no reason to suspect Holmes was about to napalm her marriage, but it is strange how clear things are in hindsight. How did we all miss it coming?
