Keira Knightley is Engaged
British actress Keira Knightley is ready to say “I do”!
The Pirates of the Caribbean star is engaged to musician boyfriend James Righton. 28-year-old James plays the keyboards and contributes his vocal talent to the Klaxons, a British indie rock group based in London. Perhaps he asked for her hand with a song? No details of the proposal have been revealed – yet.
The engagement isn’t just the latest from the rumor mill; Keira’s publicist officially confirmed news of the 27-year-old actress’ engagement to the Associated Press on Friday. Sara Keene, Keira’s publicist, would not divulge any proposal or future wedding plan details.
The couple has dated for a year. The public first caught wind of their romance last April when the pretty pair were photographed snogging in an East London park. Reportedly, mutual friend Alexa Chung, a fellow Brit fashionista and TV host, introduced Keira and James.
This will be the first marriage for both Keira and James. Prior to hooking up with her new fiancé, Keira was in a five-year relationship with fellow actor Rupert Friend, who starred alongside her in the hit period piece Pride & Prejudice. Rupert and Keira parted ways in December 2010.
Earlier that year, Keira revealed the difficulty of balancing her love life and her work life.
“It’s hard to have a relationship when I’m working so much,” she told Marie Claire in 2010. “But then you have to think, ‘What is actually important in life?’ Is career your only thing? That’s sad, because there’s going to come a day when you’re left lonely.”
The starlet has worked steadily since her breakout role in Bend It Like Beckham in 2002. She’s become the go-to British actress for dramatic period pieces, such as Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, The Duchess and The Edge of Love.
In her revealing Marie Claire interview, she continued, “It’s a difficult compromise. I think you’ve got to strive for balance. It’s the striving that counts.”
Keira apparently found that balance at last because she’s not set to become husband and wife with her rocker love – and she has several new projects in the pipeline.
This year, she’ll star in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World alongside Steve Carrell, and she’ll take the helm of the much-anticipated film adaptation, Anna Karenina. She also has two roles lined up for 2013: Can a Song Save Your Life? and Untouched. Hopefully she finds some free time to say “I do,” too.
