Lady Gaga’s Surprising (Even For Her) New Hairdo
I didn’t think that, at this point in her career, Lady Gaga could surprise me with her eccentric behavior and fashion. But she’s gone and done it. I am floored by her new hairstyle which – unlike most of her crazy hairstyles – is not a removable wig. Lady Gaga has shaved her head. Not the whole thing, though – only the bottom half.
What possessed Lady Gaga to remove the bottom portion of her hair, also creating a reverse widow’s peak from the base of her neck? It was her unique way of honoring friend Terry Richardson’s late mother. Obviously.
"I did it for u Terry," Gaga tweeted. "I'm sorry about ure mommy. She has princess die, but were all princess high,"
Gaga posted the picture of her freshly shaved head on her Little Mosters fan blog.
Richardson is an American fashion photographer whom Gaga is clearly close with. The pair have worked together numerous times, and Richardson even released a book, Lady Gaga X Terry Richardson, last year which featured his famous photographs of the pop icon.
Richardson announced the passing of his mother on September 11th via Tumblr this week by posting, “R.I.P. Annie Lomax, My Mom 1938-2012.” Richardson’s mother was 74 years old.
Gaga shared her thought on working with Richardson with MTV last year, saying:
"Terry was with me for [almost] a whole year, and, gosh, I didn't hold anything back from Terry ... he was with me every minute, every moment," she said. "It's completely unfiltered. He has photographs of me waking up in the morning, brushing my teeth, in the bathroom, in the bathtub, the shower. And the thing about Terry, if you know anything about his photography, is that nothing is staged; I mean, that's sort of what he is renowned for. He can get you to do things and he can capture things that no one can ever capture.
"What I love so much about Terry is that he thinks everything is so beautiful. I'm always, 'Oh Terry, get out of here,' and he's like, 'Oh, it's so beautiful, let me just shoot it.' "
No word yet on Richardson’s response to Gaga’s grand gesture of sympathy and support, but after the amount of time they’ve spent together in the past, odds are Richardson understands that grand gestures are par for course when it comes to Gaga. Still, a gesture of any sort when one is grieving is kind and usually appreciated.
Our sympathies go out to Richardson and his family as they deal with the loss of their loved one.
