New Girl for Johnny Depp Already?

It hasn’t even been two weeks since news of Johnny Depp’s split with longtime partner Vanessa Paradis hit headlines, and he is already being linked romantically to a new beautiful woman. The current rumors are suggesting a pairing of Depp, 49, and actress Amber Heard, 26.

Upon first hearing the possible pairing, it seems like just another case of two attractive people co-starring in a movie together, so people naturally assume they must have an off-screen love affair. However, it’s hard to overlook the fact that Heard, who is openly bisexual, broke up with her longtime girlfriend a few months ago, and now Depp has separated from Paradis, the mother of his two children, 13-year-old Lily-Rose and 10-year-old Jack. Are the break-ups a coincidence, convenient, or related?

Heard dated photographer Tasya van Ree for four years. The couple broke up without fanfare and has remained on friendly terms.

It may not be the same story for Depp and Paradis. Although the statement released to the press announcing their split insisted it was an “amicable” parting of ways, a source claims to have overheard an argument between Depp and Paradis, during which she screamed, "If I see her, I'll drown her!"

NOW magazine (consider the source, please) also reported that Depp and Heard exchanged “racy” text messages.

Perez Hilton also reported on his celebrity gossip website that a source told him, "[Depp is] smitten by [Heard]. They started sleeping together during the (Rum Diaries) press tour."

Depp and Heard met while filming The Rum Diaries, based on Hunter S. Thompson’s book of the same title, last year. The two reportedly became “friends.” One piece of evidence suggesting that they be more than friends is that just days after announcing an official split from Paradis, Depp gifted Heard a horse.

Why on earth would he buy her a horse? Well, Depp is known to be a bit of an odd guy, so perhaps that is just what odd people give as gifts. Or perhaps he is providing a new love with a way to join him as he rides horseback through the trails of New Mexico, Arizona, while filming his latest movie, The Lone Ranger, in which he stars as Tonto.

If unique gifts are Depp’s way of showing affection, Heard’s is comparatively boring, but much easier to decipher. She told Guest of a Guest last year that working with Depp on The Rum Diaries, "is everything you'd hope working with Johnny Depp would be. He's absolutely amazing, as far as his talent and him as a person."

Sure, Heard’s statement doesn’t necessarily mean she has a big crush on Depp – she may just think he’s a great guy. But really. Who doesn’t have a big crush on Depp?
