Your lifestyle, your quirk
Nicole Richie was all over the tabloids a few years ago, almost exclusively for her extreme (to the point of scary) weight loss. Today (thankfully!) she is found in the headlines looking much healthier, happier, and finding great success.
Now 30 years old, Richie is married to rocker Joel Madden, with whom she has two adorable children, and is looking as healthy and beautiful as we’ve ever seen her. She shared in a recent interview with the Australian division of Glamour magazine that she maintains her slim but fit figure by incorporating dance into her workout routine.
"It's about toning,” Richie said. “What's so great about Tracy is that she designs a program especially for you, for your body, and helps you get to the best version of yourself. I grew up a dancer so the dance-cardio element of her approach was a draw for me. You get to dance for an hour and then you do some legs, arms and stomach. You never do the same thing twice. I work out two or three times a week."
Professionally, Richie has really come into her own as well, as she is rapidly becoming a fashion mogul.
Richie told Glamour, “My inspiration always starts with music. There’s a real connection between fashion and music, and each season I try to bring the two together. There’s a certain feeling, a special place in your heart, when you hear a song you love. I try to tap into the same feeling through my clothing. I don’t have muses—it’s not so literal—but I’m obviously inspired by the music of the ’60s and ’70s. I love the overall freedom of that time. The idea of clashing didn’t exist, and you were able to freely mix fabrics, prints and colors.”
Richie’s design methods are working for her, as she has been tapped to design an exclusive line for Macy’s, called Nicole Richie for Impulse, which will be out in 100 Macy’s stores and online this fall. She follows in the wake of seven other celebrity designers who have worked with the Impulse line, including Karl Lagerfeld and Matthew Williamson.
Richie has already established two 1960s-inspired fashion lines, House of Harlow and Winter Kate collections. Both lines launched in 2009. The collections, which include jewelry, eyewear, footwear, and handbags, are available only at high-end department and specialty stores.
Currently, Richie is also serving as a mentor and judge on the reality fashion series, Fashion Star, alongside fellow celebrity designers Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos. The show is hosted by model Elle Macpherson. The premise of the show is aspiring designers creating clothes based on a theme and with limited time and supplies.
It’s great to see Richie finding her place in Hollywood and moving forward in such a healthy manner. I look forward to seeing her fashions – even if I can’t afford them.
