Not My Amanda!
To say that I’m worried about Amanda Bynes would be the understatement of the year. No, the decade. I’m serious! What is it about these girls that renders them unable to make wise decisions? Or at least make wise decisions when it comes to very public things that can literally ruin their reputations, careers, and most importantly, my opinion of them.
If you haven’t heard, Amanda Bynes was recently ARRESTED for a DUI! I know. I KNOW! It’s just a downright shame. I mean, I literally grew up with this girl, in a way that no one can try to describe their affinity for Lindsay Lohan with. I mean really, how many times did I watch The Amanda Show growing up (looking back, it’s kind of embarrassing, yeah, but some of those skits are still kind of funny now…if you don’t believe me, check out “The Girls Room” on YouTube)? She was everywhere all throughout my elementary years (on All That) and then my middle school years (on her namesake show). She was the youngest person EVER to have their own variety show!
Also, who didn’t love her in Easy A, 2010’s breakout teen comedy? I mean, the main event in that movie was obviously Emma Stone’s performance, but Amanda Bynes’ performance was so inspired, and seemingly out of nowhere. Not only was she starring in a great movie that I immediately bought when it was released on DVD, she also stole the show. She had me laughing harder than Ms. Stone plenty of times throughout that movie. Her performance even surpassed Mandy Moore’s in Saved, which was a very comparable role.
I was hoping to see more of Ms. Bynes, since she had seemingly proved her comedic worth, but it seems like her career might be on the back burner. Everyone was obviously dismayed when the news hit about her DUI, but I was even MORE disappointed to hear that things are getting worse. Apparently, this wasn’t just a one-time thing that Amanda’s sorry for and wants to move on from. Recent reports say she refused to let cops take a blood test, even though her breathalyzer was clean. In other words, she’s hiding something else in her bodily fluids. I’m really hoping that it’s due to some moral high ground, rather than the all too likely reality – drugs!
God, Amanda, take a page from Emma’s book and respect yourself. We don’t want another Lindsay, we need another Emma. Follow the right redhead, because fans like me will be right here waiting for your next movie when you do!
