Stars Being Bullied Over Baby Weight

Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson are the latest stars to take heat for not bouncing back to their pre-pregnancy weight fast enough. Both stars have made it clear that they intend to lose the weight the old-fashioned way – by eating right and exercising – but they don’t seem to be doing it fast enough for America. Duff is three months post-partum and Simpson is only two. C’mon folks! Seriously?

Twenty-four-year-old Duff bravely bared her post-baby body in a black bikini this week, which, of course, the media has used to bash her incessantly.  Duff, bless her heart, is standing up for herself and fighting back against some of the negative comments doled out regarding her bikini photos.

“Say it to my face,” Duff said via In Touch magazine. “I’m not perfect, but I feel fantastic.”

Well said. Most women would not have responded in such a civilized fashion.

Duff continued, “This is how it goes for most women – the weight doesn’t fall off overnight.”

Duff also said, “I don't care what people say. I'm not back to where I want to be, but I'm not stressing it.”

Duff is working out “a few times a week” and keeping it interesting by mixing cycling and personal training. She is working back toward her goal weight, but her primary focus is right where it should be – on her new son, 3-month-old Luca Cruz Comrie.

“He’s the only person I want to hang out with,” Duff said about Luca.

Her husband, former NFL player Mike Comrie, has also been very supportive and doesn’t mind the few extra post-pregnancy pounds. “Even during my pregnancy he thought I was beautiful,” Duff told In Touch.

Simpson, 31, is less eager to share her post-baby body with the world. She has been seen primarily just getting in and out of a car on her way to the gym, always dressed completely in black. Granted, Simpson has more weight to lose and a lot more pressure – she is under contract with Weight Watchers to be at her goal weight of 130 pounds in time to shoot the commercials for their next campaign at the end of the year. She reportedly hit 210 pounds at the height of her pregnancy. Simpson’s Weight Watchers contract is for $4 million!

Simpson has responded to some of the media about her weight, clarifying via twitter, “Just so everyone knows . . . Weight Watchers hasn’t put ANY pressure on me!”  She continued, “I’m trying to be as healthy as I can be for myself and I feel great.”

I want to send out some major kudos to both girls who are dealing with a very common post-baby issue, but are insisting on losing the weight on their own terms, in their own time, and in a very healthy way. Keep it up ladies!
