Status Report on Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

The biggest celebrity story of the summer has already reached a very anti-climatic conclusion. After a cheating scandal that worked the celebrity gossip world and led to the break-up of one of the most beloved young Hollywood couples – Twilight costars Robert Pattinson, 26, and Kristen Stewart, 22, the couple may already be back together.

There are many differing reports on just how “back together” the pair are, but it appears they agree they are much happier when together, and they are at least ready to give their relationship another go.

According to one unnamed source in the most recent Us Weekly, "[Rob and Kristen] are living together and have reconciled.”

A different source told The Times a slightly different story: "Rob told Kristen the only way he can forgive her affair is if she truly commits to him. Rob has been keen to marry Kristen for quite a while and he doesn't want to get back with her unless he knows she means it for life too.”

The source continued, "Although Kristen broke Rob's heart he has realized he can't live without her. He never stopped loving her and he believes she still loves him. He is desperate to make it work and wants to give her another chance but not unless she proves she really wants it too.”

Whether the pair are just doing a one-month trial, have already moved back in together, or are already talking marriage, the reconciliation is a bit startling in its speed. It was only July that the news of Kristen’s “momentary indiscretion” with her 41-year-old Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders broke. Sanders, who is also married with two children, was photographed holding Kristen from behind in a passionate embrace, kissing her ear. Additional photographs showed them also kissing in a car.

Within 24 hours of the scandal hitting the newsstands, Kristen issued a public apology. Ironically, this nearly begging note was her first public acknowledgement, in three years, that she and Robert were even an official couple.

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

Robert never publically responded to Kristen’s apology. He went into hiding for a few weeks, and when he had to start doing promotional appearances for his new movie, Cosmopolis, he avoided the topic of Kristen entirely. Despite numerous opportunities to bash his ex, Robert was ever the gentleman and refused to trash talk her. Perhaps now we know why: he may still be in love with her.

No doubt, this love saga will continue in one way or another. All we can do is sit back and wait to see what these two young stars work out. Best of luck to them.
