Surprise Wedding of the Weekend

in category of Gossip, Audra Rundle, celebrity news

Most celebrity couples will become engaged and take some time to plan the wedding, leaving plenty of room for the media to over-speculate about every tiny detail of what the wedding may include. Not Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. Without any warning, they just up and got married last Sunday!

Ryan, 35, and Blake, 25, tied the knot under a large white tent at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina on September 9. The attendance was kept small, with immediate family and close friends only. Blake’s good friend, Florence Welch – of Florence + the Machine – performed three songs at the event. Also singing at the reception – Bette Midler. No big deal. (!!)

The news of the nuptials was broken to the world via a tweet from a local radio station, reading, “Hold up, there's another story that it's Ryan Reynolds and he married Blake Lively at the Cotton Docks today!”

A representative from the local radio station told the media, "I am being told there were around 60 people at the event and that a local restaurant may have catered it. Ryan has always loved it here and when he got together with Blake, he started to bring her here, too."

Ryan has never shied away from showing his leading ladies he is serious; he was engaged to singer Alanis Morrisette from 2004 to 2007 before they decided to call it off, and he was married to actress Scarlett Johansson from 2008 to 2010. Ryan and Scarlett filed for divorce simultaneously, and it became official in 2011.

Ten months after his divorce finalized, Ryan and Blake began dating. They met while co-staring in The Green Lantern. Less than a year after they started dating, the couple must have realized they were in it for the long haul, as they purchased a $2 million home together in Bedford, New York.

Although this is Blake’s first marriage, she has been involved in a few high-profile relationships previously, including her Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley and actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

Ryan and Blake make a point not to gush about their relationship to the media, and the closest Blake’s come to admitting it was when she told Marie Claire, "It's definitely attractive when a man can dress well."  Ryan seems to dress all right, as he topped People’s Sexiest Man Alive list in 2010.

Congratulations to the happy couple and kudos for being perhaps the only people in Hollywood capable of keeping such a big secret!
