Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Divorce

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday we were watching Tom Cruise jumping up and down on Oprah’s couch, hysterically professing his love of Katie Holmes? Sadly, today it appears that the fairytale marriage made in Hollywood has run its course. Several sources are reporting that Cruise and Holmes are now ending their five-year marriage.

The third time was not a charm for Tom Cruise, who was previously married to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rodgers. Maybe Tom should try dating outside his profession? Just a thought. A spokesperson for Cruise revealed to People, “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."

According to TMZ, Holmes will be seeking sole custody of the couple’s daughter, Suri Cruise. There are rumors floating around of a prenuptial agreement which would entitle Holmes to $3 million as compensation for every year of marriage to Cruise, and that doesn’t include child support and shared assets. I think Katie –who once fondly recalled having posters of Tom Cruise hanging on her walls when she was growing up – is going to be just fine.

Although it is not yet known exactly when the couple’s relationship began to dissolve, the fact that Holmes was not by her husband’s side during his promotion of his latest movie, Rock of Ages, was a pretty good indicator that something was wrong. The usually inseparable TomKat have not been seen together in public since April of this year.

Details of the divorce are likely to be divulged over the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see what affect – if any – the split has on Cruise’s movie career. A nasty custody battle could deter moviegoers from the desire to see Tom on the big screen. We have to wonder if the end of this relationship will drive Tom Cruise into hysterics all over again.
