Topless Carly Rae Was A Fake

Carly Rae Jepsen is experiencing the excitement of a career taking off at breakneck speed, thanks to her hit single “Call Me Maybe.” Unfortunately, with celebrity also comes rumors. And, apparently in Jepsen’s case, unknown models posing topless and pretending to be you. Oh, the problems famous people face.

A picture posted on Twitter supposedly of the 26-year-old topless garnered a great deal of attention (and re-tweets, of course). Unfortunately, the topless ta-tas ended up belonging to someone else entirely, although 21-year-old Destiny Benedict does look a bit like Jepsen. A bit.

The gossip site responsible for publishing the pictures originally and claiming they may be Jepsen did lead in with the disclaimer that they “may be a few years old and shot in mirrors” with a cell phone. That probably should have been most people’s first clue that they weren’t real.

The second clue would be the hardcore piercings Benedict is sporting in the pictures. Odds are, if Jepsen those piercings, it would have been found out and talked about long ago.

Benedict, who is an aspiring model, set the record straight by tweeting, "Well I just want to say this Carly Rae is a beautiful girl and i'm honored to have been mistaken as her."

One must wonder if Benedict is also “honored” to score some free publicity and name recognition now thanks to her doppelganger status.

Benedict also displayed how “honored” she felt by tweeting a few much less appropriate tweets, one saying she “looked like Carle Rae on meth…maybe?” and  “Being mistaken for Carly Rae…Anal maybe?” Um, awkward.

Jepsen is a Canadian singer who is currently best known for her “Call Me Maybe” ditty that hit number one in multiple countries, including the U.S. and Canada, as well as for being Justin Beiber’s protégé. The two Canadian superstars share a manager, Scooter Braun.

“Pretty much every day, there’s a moment where I’m having to pinch myself and think, ‘When did this happen to my life?’” Jepsen admits in her recent Billboard interview.

Jepsen has not personally added to the hype by commenting. Her representative, on the other hand, issued a statement this week assuring fans that the photos are "200 percent NOT Carly."

Jepsen’s rep has also stated that her record label is handling any potential cease-and-desist cases.

Meanwhile, Jepsen spent this week celebrating Canada Day (July 1st), celebrating with a performance in Mississauga.
