Why Nicole Scherzinger Matters
I’ve been seeing Nicole Scherzinger’s name around for a while now, but never really knew anything about her other than she’s clearly gorgeous. But then, so are pretty much all women in the Hollywood scene. I did some homework on Scherzinger and learned that she is a pretty likable star – no wonder her name keeps popping up.
Scherzinger originally rose to fame after winning a television singing competition with her girl group Eden’s Crush, but soon after left the group to join the Pussycat Dolls, which became one of the bestselling girl groups of all time.
Scherzinger recently spoke to Cosmopolitan magazine about her time as a Pussycat Doll:“I learned how to accept myself [in the group]. There was nowhere to hide in those outfits! And it was cool to be a girl group; it’s empowering when you’ve got a sister to back you up.”
In 2010, after seven years with the Pussycats, Scherzinger left the group to start a solo career that saw great success in the U.K. She also began venturing into acting, performing in small cameos until she landed a gig as a judge on the reality singing competition show The Sing-Off in 2009 and then The X Factor in 2011. Although she was originally announced as a co-host for The X Factor, her position was later changed to a judge, alongside Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and L.A. Reid. She left the show after just one season, claiming she wanted to focus on her music. However, she has since moved over to judging The X Factor in the U.K.
Currently, the 24-year-old Hawaiian can be found smiling back at you on the cover of Cosmopolitan U.K. this month in a sparkly Barbie-pink mini dress that only a raven-haired beauty like her could pull off without looking tacky.
Scherzinger’s Cosmo interviews shows that she is a family and friend-oriented person who relies heavily on her close crew for support and encouragement.
“I love people, but I tend to be shy and stay within my little circle,” Scherzinger admitted. “I roll with the same crew – they get me and they’ve been there for me through the good and bad. My sister is in our group too. We speak pretty much every day. It’s important to confide in friends; when you’re confused or feel alone, they pick you up.”
Scherzinger said that that her mother is “her everything,” and she had fun flying her mother to Newcastle recently to view a taping of The X Factor. “It was the first stamp on her passport. That was really special, “ Scherzinger said proudly.
All in all, Scherzinger comes across a hard-working and family-oriented star, which makes her A-OK in my book. I look forward to seeing more of her in the near future.
