Celebrity Fitness at Its Best

in category of Health & Fitness

People are always asking me “How does so-and-so keep their body so great?” or “How does so and so look so young?!” Well, I’m not their doctor, but I do have a magic trick up my sleeve – Google! It’s not hard at all to look up your favorite celebrity’s secrets. Assuming they’re not concealing something like plastic surgery, many of their diets and exercise regimens aren’t hard to duplicate. For instance, one of the most buzzworthy celebrities out there (especially when it comes to fitness) is Ryan Kwanten, the actor who portrays Jason Stackhouse on HBO’s True Blood.

Ryan has got a virtually flawless body, and if I could choose anyone out there today to personify Hercules or Zeus, it would be Ryan. What’s his secret? Well-rounded activity. He’s not just a lifter or runner. He does both, but also swears by the importance of yoga and dedicates at least 20 minutes every day to sculpting his abs. He says that keeping it mixed up is the key to not only escaping boredom, but strengthening his entire body so that he avoids injuries. He also stays out of the gym. He runs on trails and does yoga at home! He also emphasizes his core through planks and jack knifes on a daily basis. What’s the overarching theme of it all? Muscle confusion. This is the same philosophy that fans of P90X emphasize. In other words, you have to keep your muscles guessing. You can’t let them fall asleep, zone out, or think that they’ve got it all figured out. You need to constantly work as many muscles as you can in as many ways as possible.

Take Ryan’s cue and sign up for a sporadic marathon here and there. Try out a triathlon with your friends. If you take a vacation on the coast, go for a run on the sand. Lastly, his diet is also similarly unique. He tries to stick to the Paleolithic diet (emphasizing protein, fruits, and veggies, and avoiding carbs, sugars, and processed foods), but doesn’t follow it as dogma. Instead, he uses it as basic guideline to try to stay close to, and allows himself sporadic indulgences. Again, this ensures that he doesn’t get bored, and safeguards him against binges. In other words, he’s not afraid to knock back a few beers, but he makes up for it in fresh water and proteins the next day.
