Your lifestyle, your quirk
With summer in full force, many are wondering how they can keep the pounds off. During these months, we are surrounded by hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, ice cream, and soda more than any other time of the year. Besides Christmastime, the food of summertime may be the most tempting of all seasons. When you’re hot and sweaty, it’s really difficult to deny that melting cone of vanilla ice cream from Dairy Queen. And who can say no to a hot dog at a summer BBQ?
Keeping yourself fit and bikini-ready doesn’t mean you have to forgo all that delicious summer food. There are certain strategies you can employ to help you lose or maintain your weight quite easily. While you might not be able to have ice cream every day, you can allow yourself to have treats. Dieting does not mean you have to suffer!
There seems to be five strategies successful dieters use to ensure weight loss success.
Number 1: Be specific. This means you need a concrete weight loss goal. For instance, if you want to lose weight, your goal should be a specific amount of pounds. “I want to lose ten pounds” is a concrete goal that will keep you motivated. And once you lose those ten pounds, your next goal will be to maintain that weight.
Number 2: Create an eating plan. Figure out what you can eat to meet your goals. Figure out what you’re going to have for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Knowing what you’re going to eat helps curb cravings. Also, figure out what you will do when you can’t plan your meals, like when you’re out to eat with friends or work has catered food. Say you will order a salad if you go out to dinner, or chicken with a side of vegetables. If work surrounds you with desserts, say you’ll have one cookie or one brownie, and that will count as your snack for the day.
Number 3: Track your success. Weigh yourself daily and write down on a calendar how much you’ve lost. Yes, even ounces count. Before you know it the pounds will add up and you will feel very proud of yourself. Knowing that your diet is working keeps you going toward your goal.
Number 4: Be a realistic optimist. Losing weight is hard, and maintaining it is, too. You know your body better than anyone. So if you know removing chocolate from your diet will make you depressed, don’t remove it. Replace it with dark chocolate and allow yourself to have a few small pieces a day. Be realistic, but most of all, have faith that healthy eating and exercise will lead you to where you want to be.
Number 5: Strengthen your willpower. We all have those bad food addictions. If you love junk food, plan to strengthen your willpower against it. But don’t just get rid of it all at once; do it a little at a time. By slowly incorporating more water into your diet and getting rid of those sodas, you’ll be able to go completely (or almost) junk-free before you know it.
These steps will help any weight loss goals you have. The strategies are easy to remember, and once implemented, you’ll probably use them everyday without even thinking about it! That’s the kind of diet we like.
