Get That Six Pack By Summer
Are you dreaming and hoping of a sexy six-pack someday? Well, it’s definitely not as easy as most people think to get one. A six-pack (or eight-pack or whatever) takes many steps to perfect, so if you haven’t already started working, it’s time to get on the horse!
To begin, there’s the obvious – building up your abdominals. The primary mistake is doing the same thing over and over again. You need to do more than basic crunches. Do those crunches, but do them in every position you can imagine. Then, also be sure to do sit ups, leg raises, and leg lifts with your abs, along with stability ball crunches.
Next, another big mistake is simply not working them enough. To get a six-pack, you need to work your abs more than your other muscles. Three sets of 15 reps won’t cut it. That three should be more like 10, and that’s only if you’re a beginner. After a few weeks, you should be closer to 20 sets. Celebrities with great abs generally spend 20-30 minutes working their abs each day, so keep that in mind next time you’re done after a few minutes. You’ll also be well served by doing some planks – static exercises where you hold up your body weight on your arm(s). Do one on each hand daily, and rotate which leg you use for balance!
People also forget that in order to make those abs ripple, you can’t have fat over them. Simply doing ab work won’t make that fat go away. Only aerobic exercise and full body workouts will do that. You need to burn calories to burn fat, and ab work, no matter how much you do, only burns minimal calories.
How to put it all together? You need to work out five or six days a week. Each of these workouts should be about an a little over an hour long. Do aerobic activity for 30 minutes (and push it!), then do some weight lifting for another 20. Finally, spend 15 minutes on your abs. Take your time in what you’re doing, it’s definitely quality over quantity. Start with crunches, move onto sit-ups, then static exercises like planks, and end the work out with some leg lifts!
Also, don’t skimp on the lifting, because you don’t want to look disproportional. What good is having great abs if your arms are flabby?
