How to Cleanse Like a Pro

Cleanses never seem to be out of style. They can be the perfect thing if you’re feeling icky. However, you have to be careful not to expect too much from them, as they’re not cure-alls. I like to go on periodic cleanses when I’m feeling bogged down by my diet. I don’t know exactly what it is, but sometimes I just realize that I’ve eaten so much red meat and junk food that I need to flush my system of it all.

When I cleanse, I essentially become a vegan, and I replace all the processed junk I normally eat with supplements that speed up the expulsion process. I don’t believe I have to eat a ton of crazy new age stuff, and I also don’t starve myself. Yeah, the things I eat tend to be low in calories, but I see that as an added bonus. A cleanse is not a diet, and a diet should never be starving yourself.

For a start, I really up my water and juice intake. But I don’t drink juice from the store – it’s too loaded with sugars. I only drink juice I can squeeze myself. It may not be as sweet, but I feel a lot better and less bloated after a big glass of fresh-squeezed juice. Next, I also up my fiber. Fiber’s purpose is to cleanse your body of impurities, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t eat it all the time. Leafy greens and tempeh are my best cleanse friends. I stay away from whole wheat bread or pasta, because I don’t eat anything that was processed, unless I made it myself. To sum it up, I stick with whole foods. If it came from a plant, I eat it. If it was made in a plant, I don’t.

Then, to top it all off, I load up on wheatgrass. It may not be the tastiest thing ever, but it certainly makes me feel great. It’s loaded with tons of nutrients (one of the highest concentrations out there), and it has also been linked to warding off everything from anemia to cancer (though hard science is mixed on this, wheat grass fans swear by it). Furthermore, I don’t know what it is, but it just makes me feel better. It’s like I’m glowing! I know it sounds weird, but I heard a good friend say the same thing, and I didn’t believe her, until I tried it out!

If you’re feeling bogged down, I really can’t think of a better idea than to cleanse it up. Follow my tips, but speak with a doctor to really figure out what you can do to feel great!
