An Introduction to Detoxing

America is notorious for its unhealthy diet. We scarf down fast food and processed food faster than you can blink an eye! Couple with our addiction to sodas and other carbonated drinks, it’s no wonder that so many of us are unhealthy.

I will say that there are many people who take care of themselves and eat the way they should (I should be doing better), but no matter what you eat or how well you take care of yourself, you still accumulate chemicals and toxins in your body. These can come from your drinking water, plastics, and other places, but it’s important to rid your body of them so you can feel a lot better.

Detoxing basically gets rid of all of the nasty chemicals and toxins in your body. This can be used to lose weight, cleanse the body, and generally feel better about yourself. As I like to say, “Put only good in, and you’ll get only good out!”

I found a great Pinterest board with loads of great detox ideas, so I’ll share the link and include one or two pins from the board in this article!

Detox can be achieved by healthy, regular exercise, or it can be combined with other methods to help achieve a more complete detoxification. This yoga video features a series of poses that help you detoxify your body. I found it on the above-mentioned Pinterest board.

Yoga, meditation, and other gentle practices can also help reduce stress, thereby eliminating or at least reducing the amount of harmful hormones and stress chemicals in your body.

A detoxifying diet is also important if you want to rid yourself of bad substances. Ingesting fatty or unhealthy foods definitely slows you down and can even give you skin problems. Try to eat unprocessed food, or for a more complete diet, visit Gaiam and Every Diet.

The last way of detoxing I’d like to mention is by taking a detoxifying bath. There are several soaks that draw toxins from your body, though each might work differently for you. Our Little Place offers a number of detox baths, or refer to the board I link to above, because there are some listed there as well.

Above all, detoxing is about giving your body a rest from the daily grind of having to deal with so many chemicals and bad-for-you substances. If you feel concerned about starting a new diet, using a soak, or an exercise routine, please contact your doctor. You need to do things that are tailored to your body, and speaking with a professional can help.
