The Key to a Positive Self-Image
I’ve written literally hundreds of articles in the past year about looking good, feeling great, losing weight, and eating right. I try to keep it positive, because I truly believe there’s no room for negativity when it comes to building a better you. However, since I only have so much time and so much space, the inner journey to beauty and health is often lost, because the outer journey takes all the attention.
This whole article is dedicated to mental, emotional, and perhaps even spiritual ways to look better, feel better, and do better. To begin, I know it sounds corny, but positive self-talk is so important. This goes beyond simply paying yourself compliments, though that is also important. It’s really about staying positive in all aspects of life. If you see someone with an imperfection or perhaps unattractive attribute, don’t talk about it out loud; try to not even think about it. You wouldn’t want someone else thinking something negative about you. Staying positive about others can go a long way toward staying positive about yourself.
Next, stay in the positive when it comes to doing what you need to get healthy or look better. If your friends are whining about going to the gym, must you chime in too? Instead of going along with the crowd, do yourself and your friends a favor by being the voice of reason. Remind everyone of their goals and encourage them to stick with their plans. Don’t be afraid to compromise, either. Instead of just blowing off the gym to go get a burger, say “We can do the burger, but first we’ve gotta run a mile.”
Finally, remember that your body is a temple. It’s NOT a burden. Even if there are little parts of your body you’re not satisfied with, don’t look at eating healthy or working out as a chore. Think of it as a tribute. You are going to die with the same body you were born in, and it will always be there for you. You may not like your legs, but some people don’t even have legs. Instead of thinking about how your legs look gross, remind yourself of the importance of respecting your legs. They take you everywhere, don’t they? Do them a favor by putting in the time and effort to make them look their best. Before you know it, you’ll be feeling much more satisfied with your body.
