Pinterest Low-Calorie Healthy Treats for Summer

in category of Health & Fitness, Ali Elizabeth

It’s summertime, and the living’s easy. Diet translation? It’s time to hit up the ice cream parlor, suck on a popsicle, and gather with friends over pitchers of icy cocktails. Obviously, all the sweet treats of summer can wreak havoc on your diet, but no one wants to sacrifice the joy of an ice cream cone no matter how old they get. The solution is simple: Make your favorite summer treats healthier! I hit up Pinterest to find three yummy and low-calorie alternatives to my favorite summer must-haves: ice cream, ice pops, and frozen margaritas. Normally, those indulgences would call for lots of extra gym time, but thanks to these three awesome pins, I can enjoy a cool treat and look great at the beach.

Pin #1: You won’t believe this isn’t ice cream!

There’s something about summer that just begs for ice cream – but the frozen dairy treat is a major “no-no” for most diet plans. Stick to your healthy habits and indulge in a sweet treat with this amazing recipe: Mash together one small banana, one cup of strawberries, and 1/3 cup of almond milk. Freeze and enjoy! You won’t believe it’s not ice cream. Add some natural cocoa powder or cinnamon for an added punch.

Pin #2: Lemonade Cucumber Spa Popsicles

Beat the heat with a popsicle that isn’t packed with artificial coloring, corn syrup, and sugar. With a few simple, natural ingredients, you can make a refreshing popsicle that invokes the pampering of your favorite spa. All you need is one cup of seedless cucumbers, one fresh lemon, two cups of cold water, and natural sweetener (Stevia, maple syrup, honey, or agave are all great options) for these “spa pops.”

Pin #3: Skinny Beer-garitas – four drinks for only 138 calories!

It wouldn’t be summer without a frozen cocktail – but those slushy bad boys can be the worst diet offenders. Don’t worry so much about counting calories with these yummy and low-cal “beer-garitas.” You can indulge in four (yes, four!) of these cooling cocktails for only 138 calories. The secret to keeping these icy alcoholic treats low on calories is using your own limeade (it’s easy to make with three limes, Splenda and water) and swapping out heavy brew for a MGD 64 beer.
