What to Eat for Healthier Skin
When you eat poorly, your face tends to reflect it. You get more acne when you eat greasy foods, and if you’re not drinking enough, you may look dry. Ideally, you want your skin to be bright and glowing – which, in turn, makes you look alive and well.
I always thought that eating right would lead to better skin, but that’s not what I’ve been experiencing lately. I eat mainly veggies and fruits, but my skin still isn’t looking as clear as I’d like it to. I have to use acne wash every night to avoid breaking out, but would love to forego that, as it dries out my skin.
It turns out, there’s certain foods you can eat to achieve the perfect complexion.
Adina Gigore of Sprout Skin Care shared some of her secrets with health.com, cluing us into what we can do to keep water in and keep toxins out.
Drink lots of water. Like I said, when you’re dehydrated, you look dry and shriveled. Once you start drinking enough water, your skin cell stay firm. Water also helps keep toxins out.
Eat healthy fats. Yes, there is such a thing as healthy fats. If you eat avocado, salmon, and nuts, you’ll have healthy fats in your system, which help cells hold onto moisture.
Add foods with antioxidants. The foods with antioxidants are the brightest and darkest. That means eating a lot of berries, which are delicious on their own – no extra sugar needed! Antioxidants latch onto toxins and bring them out of your system.
As of yet, there isn’t a catch-all way to end acne through diet alone, but changing the way you eat can have positive effects on your skin. Tell us, SQ, has switching up your diet led to better skin, or other exciting side effects?
