Are Hoodies Cool?

Here at Style Quirk, we’re all about style, and the question of the day in the office revolves around hoodies...namely, is wearing a hoodie stylish?
Yeah, yeah, we know all about the negative connotations the hoodie has recently attained, thanks to a criminal case we’re sure you’re acquainted with. This case has brought the hoodie—a style choice (though not always a wise style choice)—to the attention of the American public.

Many people don’t realize how the choices you make to “stylize yourself” can dictate your life (is it just me, or does that sound Shakespearean? Might just be me). Even doing “nothing” is something of a style, and will affect how people perceive you.

That being said, the Wikipedia definition of hoodie is as follows: “A hoodie (also called a hooded sweatshirt or hoody) is a sweatshirt with a hood. They often include a muff sewn onto the lower front, a hood, and (usually) a drawstring to adjust the hood opening, and may have a vertical zipper down the center similar to a windbreaker style jacket.”

So can a hoodie be stylish? Our ethnically and socially diverse staff here at Style Quirk say, quite empathetically, NO! There is no sense of style or fashion in a hoodie. If it’s cold outside and you want to take the trash out, by all means put on your hoodie and have a ball, but please don’t try to make any kind of fashion or style statement with it.

We all know Mark Zuckerberg has become synonymous with wearing a hoodie. We’d like to politely point out that being an internet billionaire doesn’t necessarily give you the right to wear a hoodie...but like Facebook, Zuckerberg is gonna do what he wants. It also seems like a lot of guys think they’re making some kind of statement while wearing a hoodie, when in fact they aren’t. A hoodie does just the opposite.

If you’re heading to the gym or out to play ball with some friends, put on your hoodie and be proud of it. But in any other situation, leave the damn thing in the closet.
