Beyoncé Stands (and Dances) By Her Man

What good is being the reigning royalty of the music world if you don’t occasionally pay your loyal subjects back by giving everyone what they want and appearing on stage together? Music’s ultimate power couple, Jay-Z and his beautiful wife Beyoncé (maybe you’ve heard of her?) performed two songs together last Saturday at the final show in Jay-Z’s eight-show series of performances to open the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The crowd was pleasantly shocked when an unmistakable set of hips swaggered onto the stage. Beyoncé sang her 2008 hit “Diva,” then went on to perform “Crazy in Love” and, later, “Forever Young,” with Jay-Z.

While Beyoncé was doing her part of “Crazy in Love,” Jay-Z was off doing who-knows-what and completely missed his cue for his rap in the song. Proving she really does listen to her hubby’s music, Beyoncé saved him by starting the rap for him. Jay-Z must have recognized the rhymes his wife was spitting, as he could be heard saying, “Oh s**t! I should probably rap here,” as he walked onto the stage.

Watching the performances, I have to admit, Beyoncé has a badass bone in her. That mama can move! I have seen her shake it, of course (who hasn’t?), but I have not seen her kneeling on the floor and bending all the way back before while she lets out some bellowing screams. It looks like an unforgettable show for those in attendance.

It was also a special concert in that the footage of it was streamed live – as the first footage ever – on Jay-Z’s new YouTube channel, called Life + Times. The channel is part of a website by the same name and is run by IconicTV, which Jay-Z partnered with for this project.

"The site really is a way for Jay to showcase the breadth of his interests, from fashion, architecture, music, style, food, consumables, electronics, and so forth," said Michael Hirschorn, the co-founder and chief creative officer of IconicTV. "We're approaching this channel and programming it, not at the level of an MTV or a BET – at least, not yet – but really programming it as a real channel that will have regular content, some featuring him, some under his creative direction, but that when he wants to reach his audience, he's no longer going to have to go through an intermediary to get to that audience."

Jay-Z and Beyoncé are the richest couple in entertainment, and seem to be successful in everything they venture in to, from music, to acting to making adorable babies. Jay-Z’s Life + Times site and YouTube Channel is bound to be a success, filled with entertaining footage and information related to the iconic rapper. Have you checked it out yet?
