Introducing Rita Ora

in category of Music, Audra Rundle

Hold onto your hats, another British singer is about to take our country by storm. Rita Ora is in the process of blowing up, as her debut single, “R.I.P.”, topped the UK charts and is rapidly climbing the U.S. charts. She is touring all summer as Coldplay’s opening act – not a shabby first tour.

Ora gained some additional U.S. recognition by scoring the cover of Glamour magazine for its August edition. The 21-year-old looks lovely in her ’80s-inspired jean jacket over a plane white tank top and loose-fitting jean pants. She manages to look cool, beautiful, and non-pretentious.

Ora has been inspired greatly by Beyoncé in her songwriting and career, so getting to meet the new mom and her husband recently was a dream come true for Ora. About meeting Jay-Z for the first time, Ora said, “I was straight off the plane from London with rained-on hair! I think if I’d known that I’d be meeting him, I would have freaked out.  Now he’s like my brother.” (Jay-Z is the founder of Ora’s record label, Roc Nation.)

The young singer wasn’t able to play it quite so cool when she met Jay-Z’s better half. “Destiny’s child was my band,” Ora told Glamour. “I was nearly choking when I met [Beyoncé]. I call her an alien because I’m like, ‘How do you do everything at one? You can’t be human.’”

Ora is still learning to be a multi-tasking celebrity and insists that being in a romantic relationship is not among those tasks she’s learning to juggle right now, despite the rumors that she is dating Rob Kardashian.

“Rob’s family make their lives public. Me? I’m very private. He’s a great friend, but the only relationship I’m having now is with the tour bus,” Ora said.

The rumors started after Rita and Rob were seen dining with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West in London before the former had publically confirmed their relationship. Because, you know, “just friends” never eat together.

Ora had better get used to the incessant rumors, however, as it comes with the territory of being a celebrity these days. She insists she ready for it.

“I don’t really care [about the paparazzi] as long as my album is on your shelf and you’re smiling.”

Ora’s debut album, simply titled ORA, will be released August 27th. It includes her two already-released singles, “R.I.P.” and “How We Do (Party),” and has a black-and-white photo of her face for the cover.
