J Biebz’s New Song is Really Not that Much Better

You may have recently heard about Bieber’s fiasco on stage during a concert. He got sick and vomited, but kept on dancing and singing. Well, his voiceovers were singing…the man himself was busy retching.

Anyway, since that little escapade, we hope Justin is feeling better. He might be doing that right now, because his new single just released and is already garnering the millions of views we know it’s bound to get, especially since it features a particularly popular female singer.

Yes, that’s right! Nicki Minaj and Bieber are working together. The single, called “Beauty and a Beat” is definitely not one of Justin’s high points. Actually, it’s a step down from his last single.

Justin’s last song, “As Long As You Love Me” was actually fairly palatable. I found myself listening to it on the radio, nodding my head, not knowing who the artist was. My favorite part is the rap, because it actually has some substance: “The grass ain’t always greener on the other side\It’s green where you water it.”

But now, Justin’s came out with “Beauty and a Beat,” and he really fell down the ladder a few rungs. Again, the rap is the best part, this time supplied by one of my personal guilty obsessions, Nicki Minaj. At one point in the song, she mentions getting it on with Justin, mentioned the word “wiener” and rhyming it with the line “But I gotta watch out for Selener (Sa-lean-er).” Yep, Nicki is keeping it characteristically raunchy.

Justin’s part is just…oh, it’s really awful. He shot, directed, and wrote the entire video, which features writhing half-naked females that really can’t seem to dance. I did like the bits of the choreographed swimming, but the rest felt really inappropriately sexy. And people wonder why women have a hard time with their self-esteem!

The song itself is rather tactless, with Justin singing that all he needs is a “beauty and a beat.” Because obviously, he doesn’t care much for brains, or intelligence, or love, or anything of that sort. Only looks! Well, what does that say about Selena? Does she really want to fit under that stereotype?

Seriously, Justin could have done a much better job with his new single, focusing on real emotions rather than only looks. We can only  hope that since he’s managed to crank out one good hit, maybe he’ll pick himself up again and come out with another.
