Lady Gaga Explains Recent Weight Gain

The world thought Lady Gaga was pregnant after pictures of the 26-year-old mega star recently revealed a fuller Gaga than we’re accustomed to seeing. The Mother Monster set the record straight, however, assuring she is not harboring a mini Gaga in her womb; instead, she has been harboring spaghetti and meatballs!

Gaga explained to radio host Elvis Duran that her father recently opened an Italian restaurant, and she just may be the best customer.

“I love eating pasta and pizza. I'm a New York Italian girl,” Gaga said. “That's why I have been staying out of New York. My father opened a restaurant. It's so amazing."

In case we didn’t get the point that she really likes her father’s Italian food, Gaga continued raving, "It's so freaking delicious, but I'm telling you I gain five pounds every time I go in. So my dad wants me to eat [there] and I'm, like, I've got to go where I can drink green juice."

Knowing that her fans (and the media) read into her every word, Gaga clarified that there’s nothing wrong with gaining a little weight.

"I'm dieting right now, because I gained, like, 25 pounds. And you know I really don't feel bad about it, not even for a second. I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It's hard because it's a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don't like that. So I'm trying to find a new, improved balance now."

Is anyone else wondering if Lady Gaga is going to go all Christina Aguilera on us now? Please don’t read me wrong. I am a staunch supporter of women feeling comfortable in their skin and loving themselves – faults and all – but I don’t think unhealthy diet and exercise habits (or lack thereof) should be taught as something to be embraced. If you’re eating well and making an effort to be active and are still a little full-figured, good for you! Work it hard and wear it with pride. If you’re gaining weight from eating out too much at an Italian restaurant, then I am supporting Gaga’s plan to get back on track with a healthier diet. I just hope she doesn’t take it too far and set a worse example of extreme dieting.

The pop singer is clearly capable of whittling herself down to nearly nothing, to the point that friends express public concern.  Just three months ago, Gaga’s good friend and fellow musician Elton John said in an interview, “She is frail, and she doesn't eat when she should, and she's a girl, and it's tougher for a girl. She works really hard. She will be in Denmark one night and Saudi Arabia the next. I know how tiny she is and I do worry about her, yes."

Best of luck to Gaga in finding her balance. Here’s to hoping it is a healthy one.
