Your lifestyle, your quirk
If LMFAO apologizes in the near future, it won’t be for party rocking. It would be for not party rocking, or at least not party rocking in pairs. The pop group has broken up, meaning that the members will now be solo at the beach when they are in Speedos trying to tan their cheeks.
The pair rose to fame with party music and pop songs made for dancing. The beats were infectious, the lyrics were ridiculously over-confident, they each had everything you could possibly want in a novelty dance song. Their first single, “I’m in Miami Bitch” was quoted in every Facebook photo album of vacations to Miami for the past three and a half years, plus it became the theme song for Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami (for those who live under a rock, it’s a Kardashian spinoff). Since then, they’ve had hits like “Party Rock Anthem,” “Sexy and I Know It,” and “Sorry For Party Rocking.
It turns out that the duo has grown tired of their act, which they’ve been doing for years. “I feel like we've been doing this for so long, five or six years,” said Stefan Gordy, a.k.a. Redfoo. “And we're kind of like saying, well, let's just do what's natural and just kind of explore that, insteadof like forcing it all the time.”
What? LMFAO has been forcing the party rock? I feel like Fry on the episode of Futurama when he finds out that Slurms McKenzie, the hard-partying face of Slurm, actually hates his job and is burned out. The two have also been hanging around with different groups of people, which likely influenced their lifestyles and musical choices.
Fear not, it isn’t the end of everything about the group. The pair is still family: 37-year-old Stefan Gordy is 26-year-old Skylar Gordy’s uncle. It seems like the split is amicable enough that they can still have a pleasant Thanksgiving dinner. The two are the son and grandson, respectively, of music producer Berry Gordy. Berry Gordy founded the famous Motown record label. If you’re worried that there won’t be any new party anthems for DJs to blast at wedding receptions for the next 20 years, fear not! Stefan plans to continue making LMFAO-style party music as a solo act. “I love all the topics that we talk about,” said Stefan. Something tells me that he’s that kind of uncle with no kids of his own who thinks he’ll stay young, cool, and relevant forever. He’s the party uncle.
I guess we should have known that it was the end of an era when it was announced that Jersey Shore’s last season has already been filmed. Without those self-proclaimed guidos to dance to LMFAO songs while they’re plastered, how would the music get to the masses?
