What’s Your Favorite Time Waster?

in category of Opinions

I’ve only had my iPhone since October, but in this time I’ve pretty much exhausted my bandwidth allowance due to Apps. I am all about the apps, you guys. Seriously, if it’s out there as a buzzworthy waste of time, it’s either on my phone or was for a few days before I decided it wasn’t worth my waste of time. I love trying out new apps, and while I’m definitely a sucker for some of the mainstream big boys, I also have a few favorite indie picks.

I really love Draw Something. This is kind of the biggest thing out there right now, and with good reason. It’s stress-free, because there’s no score or winner, and it’s also fun. I actually like to draw as poorly and slowly as I can to aggravate my friends (what?!), but I also do see the value in trying to increase my artistic abilities. Though I hate when I can tell my friends are obviously playing on iPads! Hello! Cheating! If it’s obvious you’re on an iPad, I am twice as likely to start my drawing over about 10 times.

Anyway, I also love Instagram. I think this is because I’m simply addicted to Tumblr, and Instagram may as well be called Instatumblr. Or Tumblphone. You get the picture. It’s all about finding the best graphics and photos and sharing them with friends. I was dismayed that Facebook bought it, because I fell out of love with Facebook years ago, but this could be a cool new side to Facebook, if they play their cards right. Instagram really is Facebook meets blogging, so this could be the smartest venture Facebook has made since going public.

In terms of smaller apps, I am a big fan of Stereo Mood – which is like Pandora, but you choose music based on your mood! Cool, right? I also quirk out with IQ Test Lite. If you haven’t heard of it, it really might just be the king of all time wasters. It has literally provided me with hours of nerdy and brain-busting fun, in allowing me to test out my various forms of intelligence (I won’t brag about my results though). Plus, there’s Flixter, which is by no means a secret, but is very handy. Anytime my friends want to Redbox a movie, I whip out my iPhone to see the Rotten Tomatoes score. I also LOVE Fooducate – it’s almost like my best friend. I don’t buy or eat a thing until it’s been scanned.

So there you have my favorite time wasters. Style quirkers, what are your favorite apps?
