Space, the Final Frontier: Man Building Real-Life Enterprise
I admit it, when I was a kid I thought we could build the Enterprise and all it would take was ingenuity, but that was when I was a kid. Now that I have grown up, I realized that I was pretty dumb, even at that age.
OK, so this guy going by the name of Dan says that in 20 years we will have a real-life starship Enterprise. He says so on his website BuildTheEnterprise.org…at least that what I am told, since it appears his website is dead at the moment. The good writers at The Daily Mail say that Dan has provided blueprints on a nuclear-powered starship that will take us to the moon and even to Mars.
Dan claims to be a systems engineer that works on the cusp of new technology. I myself would rather think that the U.S. military is already working on such a ship with the help from the aliens that crashed at Roswell. Otherwise, we are talking about a guy that will try to build a nuclear-powered starship, and who knows what happens if something goes wrong? Do you want someone playing with a nuclear reactor in your backyard?
The ship is based off the NCC-1701. The geeks out there will notice that is the Enterprise from the Kirk era, thus skipping the Scott Bakula NCC-1701x. Dan is calling this the Gen1 Enterprise. He claims it will be the same size as the Enterprise portrayed in the show, which measures more than twice in length as the Empire State Building -- 3,150 feet!
Dan also claims he has figured out how to use modern day technology to build the ship, which will feature three nuclear reactors and a gravity wheel. I hope he does it, and if not, let’s just say I want to be far away from Dan when he attempts this build.
