Avoiding A Parent’s Shadow

in category of Parenting, Lifestyle, Audra Rundle, commentary

We are often defined by what we do. Like it or not, people naturally – and usually good-naturedly – start associating you with your hobbies. I like to run and did a few triathlons, so people often share running stories, ask me questions about training and running shoes, and sometimes ask to join me on a training run. I greatly appreciate that people consider me knowledgeable enough in my passion to ask me anything about it. I do the same thing to my friends who are great at their own hobbies.Read More »

When did people get so bad at going to the movies?
When did people get so bad at going to the movies?

Have we forgotten how to behave at the movies? With awards season upon us (it’s the time of year when People’s Choice, Critic’s Choice, Golden Globes, Screen Actors’ Guild, and Academy Awards, among others, will be handed out), odds are that you’ll be heading to a theater to see some of the nominated films that are still on the big screen. You may wish you waited until the movie became available on-demand at home when you have to deal with the crowds of ill-mannered people who have forgotten how to behave in a movie theater.Read More »

Five Most Annoying Twitter Habits

in category of Technology, Lifestyle, commentary, meanwhile on the internet, Sara LeDuc, twitter

As much as I love Twitter, it’s led to some incredibly annoying situations. I mean, it is great to get the latest celeb news, see your friends’ updates, and basically just browse around reading posts, but there are definitely Tweeters who use and abuse Twitter and make me want to unfollow them in an instant. Sometimes it seems as if people just don’t understand that everyone can see their tweets and that they are being just plain irritating to…well, everyone.Read More »

Alex and Ani: Here to Stay or Just a Fad?

in category of Beauty & Style, Fashion, accessories, commentary, Sara LeDuc, trends

By now, half of the female population of the world owns at least one – if not many more – Alex and Ani bracelets. It’s crazy how fast a trend can spread, since a year ago hardly anyone knew Alex and Ani even existed.

Believe it or not, the story of these bracelets began in 2004 (eight years ago!). They were created in Cranston, Rhode Island, by founder Carolyn Rafaelian. These bracelets are eco-friendly and there are tons of different designs. They also have an “expandable” feature that not many other bangles, so they fit virtually any hand and wrist size.Read More »

Season 12 of AI premiered this week. What did you think of the new judges?

I remember a time not so long ago when American Idol meant gathering at someone’s house with a group of my friends to excitedly watch and discuss. We loved it all – the atrocious auditions, the judges’ critiques (the show has never been the same to me since Simon left), and the really great performances as stars emerged. Read More »

That Annoying “Every Woman Should Have…” List

in category of Opinions, commentary, Suz Baldwin

I think almost everyone has seen the “Things a woman should have before she’s 30” list.  I’ve received it in chain emails several times over the last few years. My latest issue of Glamour actually re-ran it – I had no idea it was even from Glamour to start with – and this was the first time I actually sat down and analyzed it. I’d say I looked at it just so I’d have something to write about, but in reality I’m actually nearing thirty (gulp), and am wondering how much of this list I really should have checked off by now.Read More »

It’s Just Elves, Sir

in category of commentary, elves, Suz Baldwin, weird news

Big rocks are big news lately. A few months ago, there was a hullabaloo when a 340-ton rock was moved from Riverside to the Los Angeles County Museum in the name of art. It cost $10 million to move the rock…I raised my eyebrows at that, but hey, as long as it’s not my money we’re wasting on a rock. Then again, this is Los Angeles we’re talking about. Strange things happen in Southern California, like people buying rocks and paying $10 million to ship them to a museum.Read More »
