Don't Be This Guy

in category of Technology, Ashley Davis

Ever been criticized for your dance moves? We’ve probably all been there. You’re just out at a bar or club, having a good time, enjoying yourself and loving your life. Right then, when you’re at your happiest, your friend decides it’s time to tell you that “You suck at dancing.” Suddenly, everyone else notices, too, and they start to laugh. If that isn’t a scene from my worst nightmare, I don’t know what is.

More often than not, your lack of dance skills is due to your inability to go with the flow of the music. It’s hard to keep that beat going throughout your body, especially if it’s music you’re unfamiliar with.

The V Motion Project may help those people who can’t “dance to the beat.” The software utilizes the same technology as Microsoft Kinect and creates a musical instrument that can be controlled by how your body is moving. It responds to basic gestures and movements by creating visualizations and electronic music in “real-time.”

The software also projects an outline of whoever is dancing onto a wall. The moves of the person are instantly transferred over. Depending on how the dancer moves his or her arms, the beat will change – instead of the DJ controlling the music, the dancer controls it! Convenient for those of us who wind up flailing about more often than not.

This concept is very innovative and exciting. We were already amazed by the capabilities of Kinect, but now that we can make our own music with our bodies? We’re dumbfounded.
