Trashcan Moves to Receive Trash

Okay, we admit it. We’re sort of lazy when it comes to throwing stuff away. That’s why we invented the “basketball” game for tossing things in the trash. You know, the game where you roll your trash into a ball, aim it at the trash, and toss it. Hopefully you don’t miss, because then you’ll have to get up and place it in the can. Oh, the horror!

This isn’t to say we don’t like exercise or being healthy. But getting up just to throw something away? Sometimes it just doesn’t seem worth it. Especially if you’re really focused on something or you’re just tired. When I was in college, during finals week I would set up a little trash bag right next to my desk so I wouldn’t have to get up and break my focus just to throw something away.

Now there’s a trashcan that will actually move around to catch your missed basketball shots. Japanese modder FRP created a device that uses Kinect sensors to track where the trash is thrown. It moves along the same path as the trash and catches it.

I’m sure it will miss a couple of times, because some of us have really strong throws. If I had one, I’d probably test it by throwing stuff as far away as I could. It would be a fun game.
