My Kind of Award Show

in category of TV

Well, all my favorite stars were out en masse last night at the second annual Comedy Awards. You have likely never heard of it due to the second part, but it’s also a very low-key event. I mean, this may be surprising to some, but most of the funny people in Hollywood are kind of low-key themselves, quite shy in fact, except when they’re on stage. Perhaps the biggest plus to the subdued atmosphere of this show show is that stars can kind of do as they want here, and so the antics were in full swing.

To begin, my favorite movie of 2011, Bridesmaids, won the Best Comedy award (can you believe it’s been a year since this movie came out already?!). This is not only great news for the beloved cast, but also great news for us, the viewer, because co-writers Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumulo took this opportunity to have a brawl on stage, as there was only one trophy to take home. If you haven’t seen this show up in your Tumblr feed yet, it would behoove you to check it out on YouTube. Oh, and once again, Kristen Wiig proved that she’s just as stylish as she is hilarious, donning a gorgeous ensemble that was equally simple and elegant.

Melissa McCarthy chose this event to stage a mild fashion comeback after her horrendous gown at the Academy Awards. Luckily, she won the Best Actress comedy award, so she got to show it off. Let’s be honest here, it really didn’t take much to beat the previous outfit, but I think she learned her lesson. Her outfit was pretty sublime.

In other news, there were also some more traditional awards given out, such as Don Rickles and Robin Williams winning lifetime achievement or icon awards of sorts. Robin Williams gave a hilarious acceptance speech that you can likely find on YouTube, but you could also just as easily read the text in any entertainment magazine. I don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say he took a page out of the Kathy Griffin playbook, and gave Ryan Seacrest quite a roast during his few minutes in the limelight.

Lastly, the always funny Ty Burrell also won for best actor in a TV comedy, which I couldn’t be happier with, if only because I’ll take any excuse to see him sport those hipster glasses so well. No one does it like Mr. Burrell!
