Well, tonight’s episode of
30 Rock definitely took a different direction than what we fans are used to. It seems that our perpetually juvenile heroine, Liz Lemon, may just be growing up! Remember how at the end of season 2, she tried to adopt a baby, and then it just….kind of fizzled out? Well, it seems that plotline is (warmly welcomed) back! Furthermore, I’m happy to see her finally achieve this goal (“life is happening!”) with someone like James Marsden (let’s face it, he’s basically playing himself).
Also, how hilarious was Jenna’s “breakdown”? I loved it. I loved her Ke$ha look with the pink streaks, her Lindsay Lohan-esque mug shot, her Britney Spears-inspired sneak peek, all of it. I actually can’t believe
30 Rock hasn’t thought of this story before, but I’m not complaining, because tonight’s episode was simply great.

If there was a downside, I guess it would be the kind of so-so story with Jack’s new couch baby. It was kind of uninspired actually, as this story HAS been done before, but with microwaves, George Foreman grills, and other random Kabletown and GE products. However, it was kind of nice to see a sneaky little connection to the still-kidnapped Avery Jesup, whom I adore.
On another plus side, I was pleased to see Will Forte return to TGS, in addition to his fierce new redhead nurse get up. Let’s just face it, Mr. Forte does drag like no one else. Let’s just give him all of the awards now. He does Jenna Maroney better than Jane Krakowski, and can rock an evening gown like no one’s business. Now we just need the roller skates and blonde wig back!
Oh! And who else loves to see Kenneth dance? Any time Kenneth dances, I’m down. Tonight, he was dressed as Uncle Sam (without a sealed mouth, which is weird, apparently), but my favorite getup was the silver spandex man-skirt he wore last season with the NBC peacock emblazoned on the front. Remember that?! God, I love this show.
Now, I have a whole week with no
30 Rock laughs…but I will be awaiting anxiously for next week’s episode, which will be LIVE! Here’s hoping that Julia Louis-Dreyfuss is back for the second time around! I have also heard rumors of Donald Glover making a cameo (as a past tense Tracy Jordan – I know, right?!)…anyone else excited?
