Burglar Invades Homes to Chat with Victims

in category of Weird News, StyleQuirk, whoa

One of the most frightening experiences you can ever have is a home invasion. This is especially true for women living alone. Even locked doors and alarm systems fail to ward off some burglars. When it happens, you’re supposed to grab the phone, call the police, and run like hell out of the house. But in the moment, I’m sure it’s difficult to do anything at all, especially if the person has a weapon. Fear has a tendency to freeze its victims, leaving them paralyzed without the ability to act.

It’s almost a guarantee that a burglar will have some type of weapon on them. They’re also sure to have a motive, because why else would they break into a home and risk going to jail? Usually they want valuables: jewelry, laptops, iPods, cash. In the case of one Orlando burglar, however, the valuable is a little nighttime chat.

Frequenting numerous apartments in one building, the burglar enters through unlocked doors at night when victims are likely in bed. He goes inside, passes any financially valuable items, and heads straight for the bedroom. After surely scaring his victims to death, the burglar jumps in bed with them and starts up a conversation.

“He just walked in and laid in bed with me and started talking to me and having a normal conversation with me, like [it was] nothing,” said the latest victim. “He comes into my apartment and talks to me like he’s a friend of mine in the middle of the night at four in the morning.”

The woman couldn’t see if he had a weapon, so instead of screaming or running, she ordered him to leave. To her surprise, the burglar gladly complied and left her apartment. According to police, the burglar hasn’t caused any physical harm. All he’s done is scare them, attempt to talk, and leave. Victims have described him as a normal-looking, nicely-dressed man.

This seems to be a creepy reminder that our world can be a lonely place. But it’s also a reminder that, if you’re lonely, maybe you should try to make some friends without breaking into their houses.

Just a thought.
