Strangest Pet Products
If you thought a stroller for a dog was odd, prepare yourself. Pushing your dog around in a baby carriage is just the tip of the strange iceberg. High chairs, sex toys, and sunglasses have all been made especially for dogs, but you may be able to argue a purpose for those items. A doggie high chair helps dogs with swallowing problems, and that “special” toy can prevent your pet from humping your leg.
These products are much more bizarre and far less useful. Here are a few odd and possibly unnecessary pet products.
1. Rear Gear
If you have ever been around a cat, you have likely gotten an eyeful of butthole. They must be trying to make us look, because it’s some weird, inside joke the cats are playing on us. Now you can replace the constant parade of cat and dog bums with something cuter. Rear Gear lets you choose between a few glossy paper/cardboard designs like a cupcake or a pair of dice that hang from a ribbon that loops around your pet’s tail. When in place, it covers that unsightly bum so you can look at something cuter. As Rear Gear’s slogan says, “No More Mr. Brown Eye.”
In case just visually covering your dog’s behind wasn’t enough, you can add a carbon filter to protect your nose from canine gas. This flatulence deodorizer has a hole for your dog’s tail and stays on thanks to a belt that looks much like old-school sanitary napkin belts. In case you’re wondering, it looks even stranger than it sounds. Unfortunately for your nose, the Dogone has been discontinued.
3. The Poo Trap
Somewhat similar to the Dogone, the Poo Trap attaches to a harness your dog wears. It places a plastic bag over your dog’s bottom to collect any waste your dog may expel so you don’t have to stoop and scoop, though it seems that option would be much less work than getting a dog in and out of the harness. It looks pretty embarrassing for the dog, and like it could be a big mess if everything wasn’t lined up properly.
4. Puppy Tweets
It’s bad enough that my mother is considering getting a Facebook account, but now dogs can have Twitter. Puppy Tweets is a collar from toymaker Mattel that will send a tweet every time your dog moves or barks. People who tweet about everything they eat suddenly don’t seem so bad when you compare it to tweets about a dog barking.
5. Purr Detector Light-Up Cat Collar
This collar lets you know when your cat is purring by lighting up. If you can’t tell that your cat is purring without it, you probably have some bigger problems than wondering if your cat is purring.
