Can’t afford that fancy dress? Rent it!
Can’t afford that fancy dress? Rent it!

Let me start out by saying I am the type of person who would typically rather own than rent. The only thing I’ve ever rented – just briefly – was an apartment, and I couldn’t wait to ditch it for a house, a mortgage, and something I could truly call my own.  Needless to say, the thought of renting clothes is something I have never really entertained, because I want my hard-earned cash to go towards something that can become a permanent fixture in my wardrobe – even if that means it spends most of the time collecting dust and only gets pulled out for one or two occasions.Read More »

Season 12 of AI premiered this week. What did you think of the new judges?

I remember a time not so long ago when American Idol meant gathering at someone’s house with a group of my friends to excitedly watch and discuss. We loved it all – the atrocious auditions, the judges’ critiques (the show has never been the same to me since Simon left), and the really great performances as stars emerged. Read More »

Facebook made a big announcement…and no, it wasn’t a phone.

The rumor mill has been on overdrive with speculation about what yesterday’s much-anticipated Facebook announcement would be, with lots of buzz that it could be a new Facebook phone (which seemed totally unnecessary to me, since most of us already have 24/7 access to Facebook on our smartphones, and I’m not a  huge fan of Zuckerberg world domination). Anyway, Facebook finally spilled the beans at a press conference this afternoon. It’s not a phone – it’s a new search function that will enable you to be an even more efficient Facebook stalker!Read More »

Ever wonder how many of the common holiday traditions originated?
Ever wonder how many of the common holiday traditions originated?

The holidays are all about traditions! When I was little, I always got to open one present on Christmas Eve at 9 o’clock on the dot. Recently, we’ve merged my family with my husband’s and all do the holidays together – which includes Midnight Mass and breakfast at my house Christmas morning (I’ll be attempting stuffed French toast this year). It’s definitely fun to combine both of our family’s traditions. But ever wonder how many of the most common holiday traditions originated? Here’s a little history lesson!Read More »

Should Birth Control be Available Over the Counter?

in category of Opinions, Quirked, Jordan Alexis

There has been a lot of debate lately about whether birth control should be made available over the counter, meaning that it would no longer require authorization from a doctor to obtain it. Last week, Louisiana's Gov. Bobby Jindal wrote an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal supporting the stance of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which feels birth control pills should be more easily available.Read More »

If you’ve been following this season of The X Factor, you probably already know that (spoiler alert) country crooner Tate Stevens, 37, walked away for the $5 mil recording contract on the finale, beating out sweet, 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar (Brit-Brit’s last horse in the race) and Simon’s manufactured  girl group, Fifth Harmony.Read More »

How to Flatter a Fuller Figure This Holiday Season

in category of Beauty & Style, Health & Fitness, holidays, Jordan Alexis, weight

Let’s face it: we all pack on a few pounds at the holidays. From Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day, we’re hit with one delicious family meal, snack-packed-holiday party, and tasty treat after another. Oh yeah, and the calorie-loaded drinks are flowing too – bring on the eggnog (spiked, of course).

But just because we know our tummy, thighs, or butts might be carrying a little extra weight from too much merry-making doesn’t mean anyone else has to notice. Here are a few fashion tips for dressing to look fab while making the holiday bulge practically invisible:Read More »

Nail Polish for Rent?

in category of Beauty & Style, Makeup & Skincare, Jordan Alexis, nail polish, whoa

Do you find nail polish a little too pricy? Sure, you can get the cheap stuff at the drugstore (I remember blowing my allowance on $1.99 bottles of Wet n’ Wild as a tween), but top brands like Chanel, Dior, and Dolce & Gabbana have a whole world of colors that will cost you upwards of $25 a pop – a little expensive, seeing as my mani is usually chipped to bits in about two days.Read More »

The Rise of Plus Size

in category of Health & Fitness, Jordan Alexis

I heard on the radio last week that Melissa McCarthy, the plus-sized star of TV’s Mike and Molly and the movie Bridemaids, wanted to lose about 40 pounds to be healthier and alleviate some medical problems she’s been having, like shortness of breath and pain in her knees.  It’s great that she wants to get fitter, right?Read More »
